If you're taking the little ones to the Royal Melbourne Show this year, be sure to stop in and see
Slow Food Victoria's SPUDHUNTERS Interactive Display.
Celebrating the International Year of The Potato, this is a fabulous way of helping children make the connection from farm to plate. Easy to find, it's located in the Grand Pavillion and a session lasts around 15 minutes.
On display will be potatoes located in a mini paddock - some growing. Some where the kids can hunt around and dig out spuds, have them identified and then shown how to cook and get to eat them. It's heaps of fun and attracting as much interest from the 'big kids' as the little ones.
Farmer Adam will show the life cycle of the potato and talk about his life as an organic farmer.
Teacher Evie will help kids identify the potatoes they find in our mini-paddock and write down what they are good for.
Chef Milano will tempt with some interesting morsels made using our freshly dug spuds.
Children will leave with their own bag of potato, a recipe sheet;
And some homework!
This is a free activity but any donations to help support Slow Food Victoria are appreciated. Slow Food Victoria is a co-operative staffed by volunteers and relies on membership to function as an organisation. Slow Food's aim is to help the public discover the joys of eating unproccesed and fresh food along with ndeveloping a greater understanding of why it is important to care where our food comes from and how it was made.
“Spudhunters” is a food education activity provided by RASV and Slow Food Victoria for your child’s pleasure and interest
