About these listings

Postby SOLE Mama on Wed Aug 13, 2008 10:45 am

The first time I went to a farmers Market, I thought it would be all chubby elderly women dressed in pastel capri pants selling pickles, cakes and jam from gingham covered card tables. Was I WRONG! They're full of life, colour and great food - such a great place to shop, that I now go at least twice a month.

They're all different, big and small, and some farmers pop up at multiple markets. But until people started to ask me where their local market was I had no idea that there were actually so many. Some are organised by groups like the Australian Farmers Market Association, or the Regional one, some are Rotary Club or Not for Profit organisations. And quite a few are a just a bunch of eager locals pooling their resources.

You may see a few community markets listed in the inner city areas. These are produce markets, but they are intended for low income earners, especially for those in public housing. If you own an SUV that's definitely not you, but you would be most welcome there as a voluntary helper.

Feedback please!!

The aim is that these lists are current and will grow and expand over time, so if you check your area here regularly, you may see additions.

If you find any markets have ceased to run, please send me a PM and I'll remove them. If you want to add a market, please also send me a message.

If you're a regular at any of them, let everyone know and share with us your favourite stalls or produce. That way if a newbie, is curious, they'll learn what to expect or what to look for.

If you're a farmer who has a stall, feel free to give yourself a plug here by replying to the post that lists your market.
Shipping is a terrible thing to do to vegetables. They probably get jet-lagged, just like people. ~Elizabeth Berry
