Booklist and Discussion

OK, so no one seems to have read the Ethics of What We Eat, by Peter Singer and Jim Mason, but what about:

Slow Food Nation by Carlo Petrini Founder of the Slow Food Movement, it is translated from Italian, and so far, is quite interesting, with his 'diaries' making for interesting reading! Got distracted by the next book arriving from the library..

Hungry City by Carolyn Steel , again, an interesting book that I've only just started, but she is a world renowned architect, who talks about what it takes to 'feed' cities and the consequences of that, incl. over consumption and people unaware of where their food actually comes from etc.

I also have on order:

An Omnivore's Dilemma and a couple of others... nice bedtime reading!
Saving the planet one dinner plate at a time...

I started reading Ethics a while ago, but had to put it down as pesky real life got in the way of a nice afternoon's read.

You've inspired me to pick it up again.

I haven't read Ethics... only had a go at the Aristotle version and that wasn't about food... which was a shame as it might have been more readable and I'd have got through it!!

I have heard of the Slow Food movement tho', sounds like a great idea. I haven't read the Hungry City either. Most of what I read is fiction or folktales at the moment. If I can get at it, I do want to have another look at a 18th century cookbook I have tho'. The Art of Cookery made Plain and Easy by a Lady (Hannah Glasse) is a great read. Not only interesting for the measurements (a firkin of...) and the comments, but also for what it says about the times.

Sadly it's in a box... under a heap of books... I am Griffin and I am a Bookaholic... sigh!
