I live close to the city, so go to both the St.Kilda Veg Out Market(VO) and the Gasworks Market(G) regularly. Sometimes I go to Collingwood(C) too.

These markets have a fantastic range of produce. The stalls I buy from most frequently from are -

(VO) Marsh Family eggs - Swampy has a choice or traditionally grass fed or organic grain fed and sometimes there's duck eggs too

(VO&G) Mt Bellevue - Mal and Winnie raise Black Welsh Beef in the King Valley. As well as meat they sell great pies, lasagnes and other pre-prepared dishes too

(G&C) Gordon Jones - he grows great spuds and asparagus. His Sweet Tips pickled asparagus are great too

(VO&G) Leonie - She's a summer stall holder selling Heirlom vegies - tomatoes, herbs, zuccini, pumpkin, garlic, gourds, salad mix, eggplant etc

    (G) The Gipsy Pig - beautiful pork, outstanding bacon in a variety of styles from shoulder to streaky and rare breed lamb raised by their friend Ethel

(VO&G) Glenora Heirloom Vegetables - excellent greens, leafy herbs such as nettles and sorrel

(VO&C) Hartdale Park Venison - Really low fat and tasty, they have printed recipes too. We love their schnitzels and burgers, snags too

(VO&C) Summer Snow Apple juice - they have a great range of apple juice

(VO&C) Hope Farm organic Sourdough breads - Volkorn multigrain is a favourite and they keep for a week before going stale unlike Phillipa's which go stale overnight

    (G) Greg Brown's bread and puddings - His bread is unique and keeps for ages, there's tarts, cakes, pizzas and excellent sticky date puddings

(VO&G) Sweet Eze oranges - the sweetest, easy peel oranges, navels and blood oranges

(VO&G&C) Garfield Barramundi - succulent ethically raised farmed barramundi. We love the barra wings & dip too

(VO&C) Westernport Greens- This lovely stall just has beautiful hydroponic leafy greens in wicker baskets. I love their Asian veg, watercress, baby silverbeet, salad leaves, mustard cress and herbs

(VO&G) Blue Bay Cheese - great Gruyere, Romano, Cheddar, Caprino, fromage frais and even Quark from Main Ridge milk

(VO&G&C) Another stand with no name which has broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, onions, artichokes and unusual Italian greens
“The pleasure of eating is not in the costly flavor but in yourself.”
