Yay I'm the first to post in OT.

For anyone wanting to boycott the opening ceremony and do something else on friday night with a fun bunch of smiling Tibetans. With any luck they'll have Mo Mos to snack on. Yum:

BREAKING NEWS: Keep an eye out for the launch of a television
advertisement ATC has created and a fun way to get involved over the
Olympic period - the Beijing 2008 Activist Pentathlon!!

Don't want to watch the Olympic opening ceremony?

Come celebrate Tibetan culture instead!

Join us for a celebration of Tibetan culture at the 'Let the Freedom
Begin' Film Night this Friday 8 August 2008.

The night will feature screenings of the 'Forbidden Team', an
excellent documentary following the trials and tribulations of the
controversial Tibetan Football Team, as well as the new
Australian-made documentary 'Tibet's Cry For Freedom'.

The night will also include cultural performances from Sydney's
vibrant Tibetan Community. Don't miss the Snow Lion dance!!

Date: Friday 8 August

Time: 7.00 pm

Venue: Tom Mann Theatre, 136 Chalmers Street, Surry Hills (A short
walk from the Devonshire Street exit of Central Station).

Tickets: $25 - Book online or buy at the door. Click here to buy

I emailed the convenor as well re Melb and Bris if any Qlders are interested.

And to clarify - this is not a request to boycott the games. After much deliberation I've decided beijing winning the bid for 2008 Olympics really has given Tibet and the plight of the Tibetans a spotlight. I just wanted to be the first to post in OT :D and this seemed like a goer of a topic.

I am boycotting the Games, but that's because I can't stand sport!

Altho I have this sneaky compulsion to watch the opening ceremony to see if they can actually pull it off... It's like watching the Monaco Grand Prix... you only do it for the crashes!

Hi Danielle,

Thanks for your email. The cultural night in Sydney is being organised by our NSW volunteer branch.

In Melbourne, the VIC branch is taking part in the global Candle4Tibet rally on Thursday night in front of the State Library on Swanston Street from 7.30 until 9.30 pm.
