They are getting to a finger long ... then yellowing from the end and rotting.

For how long? Mine always do that for the first 2 or 3 per plant, then I get regular zucchini, and in no time, I'm sick to hell of them, because they're so prolific. Because it's just the first few, I always think it's a pollination issue (and the bugs haven't found them yet). Are the bees/ants/bugs finding them? If not, you can take a paintbrush or a cotton swab and move the pollen around from plant to plant yourself.
